Navy lips
Dark enough to read as a shadow, blue enough to be a choice.

The mouth is the darkest point on the face, and it is navy rather than black. Up close there is blue in it, with a little shine on the lower lip.
It ties the face to the clothes. Without it, the white face floats above the velvet as a separate object. With it, the turban, the lip and the turtleneck make three bands of the same colour from top to bottom.
On a pale face, a dark lip needs edges that are clean and sharp. Anything soft or smudged reads as an accident next to all that precise metalwork.
